A Special Day

Dear Students,

I have now met all of you and it's a relief because you seem nice and we can get to serious business!

I'm afraid I was so engrossed in getting to know you and giving you important information that I did not take time to talk about today's special date.

You have probably already guessed what I am going to talk about...

Today was the 11th anniversary of the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in Manhattan.

For sure, you know all about it but I'm trying to figure out what has changed since the attacks took place.

Obviously, 9/11 was not the first massive terrorist attack in the world. But I believe this one left a particular mark on our minds because it targeted one of the most powerful economic symbol of the USA and did so sacrificing thousands of human beings in the process. The aftermath of such an attack was tragic; not only economically but also psychologically. And I don't only mean for the American people but also for the entire planet. If such a powerful nation can be breached, what about other smaller nations?

The threat was even greater because it came from the sky. I believe this attack changed our perception of safety. There is definitely an "After 9/11". It has forced people to put the notion of homeland security into perspective.

I'm trying to find a decent way to conclude this post but I can't. And in fact, I think this is what 9/11 did to the world, it made it speechless.

So tonight, I'm thinking about all the victims and their relatives, hoping that such a terrible event will never ever take place again.
