Great band

I thought it would be nice to share with you some music I have discovered during the holidays. You might know them already.

This band is called Half Moon Run. Here are a few videos:

I particularly enjoy their videos which I find very arty.

Hey there!

I would like to share two of my recent trips abroad with you to give you a glimpse of what it was like...

The first one was in Ireland, in Connemara. It was a school trip & turned out to be simply amazing!

The students were much fun & pretty well-behaved! Here is a pic from the Connemara lake:

This is me in Galway with the statue of Oscar Wilde, a famous Irish writer!

We also visited The Wool & Sheep Center with a very excentric though funny guide! Some students were asked to act as sheep for some shearing demonstration...

The weather was nice so the bus journeys were great opportunities to take a good look at the countryside.

My second trip was a holiday trip in Yorkshire, in England, where I used to live as a teaching assistant & where I have made friends for life! I live in France & this is where I belong but a few years ago, I left a piece of my heart over there in Yorkshire:

The picture above was taken in the moorland where the Brontës used to live & write (they were famous female writers). It kind of gives you a good idea of what they drew their inspiration from ...

This one above is one of my friends'guest room. Don't you think it's lovely? It is right at the top of a windy hill, really picturesque!

There was also a short stop in London on the way up to Yorkshire...

A nice stroll along the canal between Camden Market & Little Venice:

Now, I'm back home & life is slightly different although it feels nice resting in the comfort of a cosy home:

The Iron Lady

Margaret Thatcher, the first woman ever to serve as prime minister of Great Britain and the longest-serving British prime minister of the 20th century, has died at age 87.

To find out more about her life & political career, watch this short news report by ABC News:

Terminales - Speaking exam

My dear students,

Here is a short & interesting video (in French) to help you LEARN your lessons

There are some pieces of advice on how to learn your revision notes for each unit ( a fortiori for each notion).

Anonymous readers...

The blog has gone over 5000 visits & I'm glad some of you enjoy reading it. It means a lot to me.

It is a real adventure & I want to improve it & make sure it corresponds to my students' needs.

However, sometimes it feels a bit funny not to know who reads it... I think most of my students come from time to time for a look but then I wonder who else might pop in for a quick look:

Some of my colleagues?

Some parents?

Teachers from other schools?

Some students's relatives or friends?

My headmaster?

Who knows...

So, if you visit this blog either from time to time or regularly, could you leave a comment telling me who you are? (a student, a teacher, a parent & more details if you don't mind).

That would be awesome because it would enable me to target your needs more efficiently.

Anyway, I hope this blog will carry on, improve itself & spread!

Hello there!

After a busy though really interesting & beautiful week in Ireland, I'm packing for a week holiday in West Yorkshire, England, where I used to live as an assistant.

So, I'd like to wish you a very nice & sunny holiday, hoping that you'll get some rest but also have fun!

I won't be blogging before the second week of the holidays.

See you then!

Today's song:

Dear Terminales,

As part of our unit on counter-power, you might want to look at this flashmob & decide whether you consider flashmobs as an effective way to speak your mind & assert your rights:

If you want to understand the point of this flashmob, you must concentrate on the lyrics of the song ("They don't really care about us" by Michael Jackson), the people involved (inmates= prisoners) & the location (a prison)...

The High Price of Materialism

As part of our unit entitled Born to consume? (What type of consumer am I? Can I improve the way I consume in my everyday life?), my 1e & I tried to analyse "the power of advertisement" & the impact adverts have on our lifestyles & values.

Here is an interesting animated video dealing with the consequences of consumerism in our lives & ways to consume less & live more happily & simply.

We the people!

As part of our unit entitled We the People! (Is the voice of the people growing in influence?), my terminals had to come up with an interesting cause to petition the White House (

But first, we analysed this report from ABCnews:

Here is one of my student's work:

Le Creusot must become the 51st state
of the United States of America

France is not good enough for our big town of Le Creusot ! We need to be emancipated from this country which is getting worse & worse. The United States of America is the welcoming and powerful country that we want to integrate.
Le Creusot would become a really important overseas state.

Here, there is no poverty, no conflict and everybody is glad to live in a beautiful place. In fact, it is the most touristic, the most interesting and the wealthiest French city. If you allow us to be a part of your country, we could spy on the French government : in Le Creusot, we have a lot information dealing with the President's secrets and hidden actions, trust us.
We speak English perfectly, as you can see, and we respect the American customs. We received many film shootings and I am sure that we can become the New Hollywood in few years ! It is obvious !
So, we petition the Obama administration to help us join you because it would really be an advantage for both of us !
Today, we are the American ambassador in France !
